About ACFE


The Adult Community and Further Education Board supports education and training for a broad range of Victorians over compulsory school-leaving age with a special focus on people who have had limited access to education.

The Adult Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board provides policy advice to the Minister for Skills and Workforce Participation. The Board supports the Government’s policies through funding to community-based organisations, known as Adult Community Education (ACE) providers, and two adult education institutions, the link opens new window Centre for Adult Education (CAE) and link opens new window Adult Multicultural Education Services (AMES), for delivery of education and training programs.

Our Minister



The Hon. Jacinta Allan MP is the Minister for Regional and Rural Development and Minister for Skills and Workforce Participation.

Minister Allan is responsible for overseeing the implementation of Future Directions for Adult Community Education in Victoria (PDF 771 kb) or (Word 114 kb). Launched in 2004, the statement:
  • highlights the importance of Adult Community Education (ACE) and the Government’s partnership with the ACE
  • sets broad policy directions and priorities for resource allocation in relation to ACE
  • identifies the further work to be done in order to achieve the Government’s Growing Victoria Together agenda.

Our structure and associated organisations



Working within the Department of Planning and Community Development, the ACFE Board works with agencies within the link opens new window Department of Innovation Industry and Regional Development and the link opens new window Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

Nine ACFE Regional Councils support the ACFE Board to provide program delivery funding to Adult Community Education providers.

The ACFE Board and Regional Councils are supported by staff employed by the Department of Planning and Community Development.
